Nkonteh is a community in Bangem, Kupe-Muanenguba, Cameroon, that shares borders with Muangwekan in the East, Ebamut in the West, Nteho in the South West, and Mbila in the South East. It is geolocated at 5°08’23.2″N 9°45’27.4″E, with a time zone of GMT+1.
Climate and Weather Conditions
Nkonteh, as part of the Bangem sub region, has a Tropical monsoon climate (Classification: Am). The district’s yearly temperature is 27.07ºC (80.73ºF) and it is 0.26% higher than Cameroon’s averages. It typically receives about 131.76 millimeters (5.19 inches) of precipitation and has 242.83 rainy days (66.53% of the time) annually.
Furthermore, it has a bi-seasonal climate define by a high rain fall, also called the rainy season, and a high temperature, also called the dry season. The raining season starts from May to September with the peak rainy period being the month of August. The Dry season starts from October to April with the peak dry period being the month of February.
Topography and Geology
As part of the Kupe-Muanenguba area, topographically, Nkonteh land is generally flat and raised 400m above sea level with gentle and steep hills dotted within the thick humid forest in the locality.
Soil consists of a comparatively thin layer of materials that covers the underlying rock, on which plants grow. Soil dept ranges from a few centimeters to over a meter. The hydrography is made of rivers, streams, and springs. These springs, streams, and rivers which take on different names at different locations serve as vital sources for drinking water. The main river in the Nkonteh community is the Mboleh river, that cut across the community and serves as a major water resource in the community.
